There is now an evident decline in traditional television viewing and print readership among Filipinos, a survey done byYahoo! Philippines and research firm Nielsen showed. The survey also revealed that more Filipinos, especially the younger population, are favoring the Internet more than television and print.

The Yahoo!-Nielsen Net Index survey was conducted from October to November 2008.

It showed a slight decline in TV viewership from 98 percent in 2007 to 92 percent in 2008, out of 1,200 people sampled.

Readership of newspapers also showed a decline from 19 to 15 percent between 2007 and 2008.

Magazine readership also went down from 16 percent in 2007 to just seven percent in 2008.

Why eBay Keeps Getting Shoppers

Written by ShopOne on Thursday, January 15th, 2009 in Linked News.

You can hardly talk about eBay without bringing out the disgust in all of the people who feel they have been wronged by the eCommerce giant. This group is comprised mostly of sellers who feel eBay has treated them with anything but respect, particularly since changing feedback policies in early 2008 (of course that’s not the only thing they don’t like. See my top ten list of seller frustrations).

Although buyers have had their own fair share of complaints about eBay as well, it still continues to be one of the leading places that online shoppers go to purchase goods, although retail comparison site JiffyPrice recently showed that Amazon has lower prices on many items that are available for immediate purchase.

Online Ad Spending Will Grow But Philippines Will Lag

Written by ShopOne on Thursday, December 11th, 2008 in Linked News.

ONLINE ADVERTISING will continue to grow in the Philippines but spending will lag behind other regional markets, a joint study by Internet company Yahoo! and The Nielsen Company showed.

Online advertising in the Philippines is projected to grow to $22.11 million by 2010 from $15.54 million this year. While bulk will come from display advertising ($15.04 billion in 2010 from $12.802 billion this year), search advertising is forecast to grow substantially ($7.087 billion from $2.743 billion).

Display advertising refers to promotions posted on specific websites, while the latter involves placements on Web pages that show results from search engine queries.

Online advertising in the region was forecast to grow by over 60% between this year and 2010, with display advertising again taking the lion’s share. Search advertising, it said, will particularly gain in “less mature online advertising markets” such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

eBay Traffic Freefall

Written by ShopOne on Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 in Linked News.

Remember the dive-bombing plane sound we’d make as little kids?  “Neeeerrrrowwww.”  That same noise is perhaps the most succinct way of describing what’s happening to traffic-related eBay statistics.

A Compete graph makes pretty clear that eBay received fewer unique visitors in October 2008 than the same month last year.  The fall amounts to a 13.2 percent year-over-year change, and the September-to-October transition alone accounts for a decrease of 6.2 percent.

eBay to Cut 10% of Jobs

Written by Becypher on Monday, October 6th, 2008 in Linked News.

EBay Inc plans to cut its work force 10 percent and sees third-quarter revenue hitting the low end of its forecast, though profit will exceed expectations, the online auction Web site said on Monday. EBay also said it would spend more than $1.3 billion to buy companies that bolster its online payments and classifieds businesses as it seeks to improve its performance in a weak U.S. economy. Its shares fell 2.6 percent in premarket trading after rising as much as 2 percent immediately after the announcement.EBay, which has faced slower growth in its core auction business over the last few years, said it will buy the Bill Me Later payments service for about $820 million in cash and $125 million in options. The business offers consumers deferred payments and financing promotions.

News here.

I think the eBay top honcho should look at its lazy and robotic customer support group. You know, eBay has this CSR who just copy and paste their answers from a ready set of answers. That’s why in clarifying some things with them, eBay users don’t get much from the correspondence. This guy is right, incoherent is the friggin word. I say to eBay, in cutting jobs, look at these lazy lads.

And by the way, they suspended my eBay account for having been connected or related to my cousin’s sister’s brother in law’s nieghbor’s friend’s mother who happen to have a problematic eBay account.

Crazy!
