The Craigslist Case

Written by ShopOne on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 in Linked News.

The strange case of South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster vs. online bulletin board service Craigslist continues, as McMaster has formally requested the court to dismiss the case brought against him by a vengeful Craigslist.McMaster had previously singled out Craigslist for the erotic services advertisements it has long carried on the site, and Craigslist made efforts to curtail them. Those efforts weren’t good enough for McMaster, who quickly threatened to sue them under SC prostitution and obscenity laws if any adult-oriented ads remained visible.

Footwear and accessories maker Steven Madden Ltd sued eBay Inc on Tuesday over purportedly fake watches being sold on the online marketplace’s website.

Madeitmyself.com, Hand-made Crafts Marketplace

Written by ShopOne on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 in Linked News.

Whether they sell beaded earrings, painted flowerpots or homemade soaps, Web sites that offer an alternative to chain stores are popping up and growing in popularity.

One of them, Madeitmyself.com, is similar in concept to eBay: Shoppers buy items from sellers who post them on the site and ship directly to the buyer. Many of the new sites – including Etsy, Silkfair and Hyena Cart – focus on handmade goods, art or specialty items.

Creators of the sites and retail experts say the companies are growing in number, popularity and sales because customers are increasingly looking for unique items they can’t find in chain stores. The rise of the Internet has made it easier for shoppers to find and buy those items.

Madeitmyself.com launched in November. It has 5,500 sellers signed up with 2,200 listing products on the site.

Ebay Power Seller – Pieces to the Puzzle

Written by ShopOne on Monday, July 13th, 2009 in eBay.

There are many different pieces to the puzzle of becoming an eBay Power Seller. Even more important are the pieces of the puzzle to becoming a Power Seller who can actually make money on eBay. It takes identifying a solid market niche and product(s) within that niche. It takes mastering the art of creating titles, photos and listings that stand out from the crowd. It takes outstanding customer service. It takes sound business operations practices.

On the business side of the equation one of the real keys is in the buying that you do to obtain your products for resale. It does little good to purchase products for resale and then find that there is no market available for those products. It does little good to purchase products and then resell them if there is not a profit involved. To make money on eBay requires that you make a profit.

To make money on eBay requires that you are able to find dependable sources for the merchandise that is to be sold. It does a seller little good to locate a supplier of merchandise and then have that supplier run out of merchandise after only one or two orders.

To make money on eBay requires that you are able to locate suppliers that ship exactly what they represent the merchandise to be. There are no surprises. There are no substitute products. What you order is what you get. Don’t be fooled; selling on eBay is just like any other business. It is full of ups and downs. To make money on eBay sellers must be prepared to accept that fact. To make money on eBay sellers need to be able to weather the low periods and come back with even more enthusiasm and commitment to their eBay business.

88DB.com undergoes facelift

Written by ShopOne on Friday, July 10th, 2009 in Linked News.

88DB.com, the Philippines’ first multimedia service portal, recently underwent a makeover to give way to a more orderly and easy-to-navigate layout for users.

Under the redesign, the site’s search functions is now at the homepage with the site’s top categories. By typing in a specific keyword, visiting customers can easily find what they’re looking for within the portal.

The portal also launched the site’s Filipino version that shows all categories and sub-categories in the vernacular. For 88DB advertisers, the site localization translates to being able to reach more prospective clients.

“Localization is always a big plus when it comes to the web space. Besides giving the user the look and feel of home, advertising products to fellow Filipinos in our own native language makes business transactions more personal. 88DB Philippines is proud to be a Filipino, too,” 88DB Philippines Business Development Manager Lyndon Jocson said.

“The Internet opens up opportunities to select and determine target market,” added Racquel Cagurangan, 88DB Philippines General Manager. “The Tagalog verson of 88DB signifies a message that we strongly support products and services that are truly Filipino for the Filipino, reaching other kababayans or fellow countrymen in other parts of the world. At the same time, the English version will continue to help our customers go global.” Full read here.

Sulit Forum, Omega

Written by ShopOne on Friday, July 10th, 2009 in Our News.

Check out this post from the hardworking admin of Sulit.com.ph.

We would like to inform everyone that we will be retiring Sulit.com.ph Forum soon. It is our regret to say goodbye with this forum as this really becomes our home for almost 3 years and we can never deny that we had so much fun using it. I actually cannot remember a single day that I never visited the forum to take a look on what’s happening within the Sulit Community or what is the new buzz with our Sulitizens.

The main reason for closing this forum is that it has already become the bottleneck of our system in terms of performance and resources. A few of you know that this forum is an open source application which I integrated to the main website. The benefit was that I save a lot of time back then and was able to concentrate my effort to the main website which I believe is good to Sulit.com.ph overall. The disadvantage is that I was limited to the changes that I can apply to the forum especially in optimizing its performance. Features implementation also become limited. With the continuous increase of our users, we believe that it is best for Sulit.com.ph to close this forum as it is already affecting much of our core product which is the classified ads system. It will be sad to leave this forum behind but we believe that it is the best for everyone.

We users were uneasy of the many possible major changes that could happen after the the buy. Could the “close out” of Sulit Forum be the first of many more changes inside Sulit. We can only hope of changes for the better.

BTW, I am not a heavy user of that forum anyways. With forum posts like… “Anu ang almusal mo kanina?” or “Sino dito ang gising pa?” or “Sinabunutan ako ng karibal kong MLM”… a reload of Sulit Forum is very much welcome. I just hope for a more intelligent forum though. And not forum comments & entries just for the benefit SC (sulit currency) gains.

Good luck Sulit team! Keep up the good work! We need you! We love you! =)

“5 Naked Photos of Mum” For Sale Online

Written by ShopOne on Friday, July 10th, 2009 in Odd.

Most people would shudder at the thought of seeing photos of their mother in lacy underwear and suspenders.

Not Auckland student Michael – who twice tried to auction such saucy shots on Trade Me.

The first time was to annoy his mother Jennifer after an argument.

Her instruction to clear out the garage and sell unwanted items on Trade Me backfired when Michael started an auction titled “5 naked photos of my mum”.
