Buy Pinoy, Buy Local

The Federation of Philippine Industries, Inc., in partnership with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce has launched a campaign for Filipinos to patronize locally made products under the banner “BUY PINOY, BUY LOCAL”.
This movement is in adherence to Administrative Order No. 227, dated May 27, 2008 issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Said Order directs all national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs), government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), government financial institutions (GFIs), State Universities and Colleges, Military and Police Units to give preference in the procurement of materials and supplies produced, made and manufactured in the Philippines.
Among the reasons for the campaign, the Federation says, are as follows: First - “The concept of “Buy Pinoy, Buy Local” is widely acknowledged as an effective shield of our country against the current global crisis”.
Secondly - “The project is also in tandem with our advocacy on anti-smuggling”. “It will greatly minimize smuggling which is the mother of all corruption - as the saying goes: “When the buying stops, smuggling stops.
“Thirdly - “Buying anything local under any campaign banner would result to import substitution and increase capacity utilizations of our factories, which will in turn generate additional employment as well as revenues for the government to fund the basic needs of our people.”
Likewise, this campaign is anchored on our Constitution’s mandate that: “The State shall promote the preferential use of Filipino labor, domestic materials and locally produced goods and adopt measures that help make them competitive”. Hence, with this constitutional provision, as Filipinos, we are obliged to patronize locally made products.
