Google offers free 200 websites in the Philippines

Written by ShopOne on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 in Online Promos.

Google on Tuesday offered to build for free websites for 200 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as well as give P2,000 worth of free credits on Google AdWords.Derek Callow, head of marketing for Google Southeast Asia, said the one-time offer is meant to boost the online presence of local firms and help them harness the power of the Web to grow their business. He said the first 200 businesses who sign up at www.google.com.ph/stimulus between now and December 15, 2009 will have their company websites developed by STI College for free.

“Any Philippine company that has a product to sell and a valid business permit can apply for the package,” he said in a presentation in Makati City.

He added that subsequent participants need only pay a one-time fee of P3,000 to STI College for the website development work. Since the websites are hosted on Blogger.com, which is owned by Google, there would be no hosting fees charged to the business.

Multiply Supports Online Selling & Online Sellers

Written by ShopOne on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 in News & Reports.

Until now, running a shop on Multiply has technically been a violation of our terms of service. As long as you didn’t spam anyone though, we simply looked the other way and let you go about your business. I know that this policy didn’t exactly give you all a lot of comfort, so I’m happy to announce that we’ve updated our terms of service to reflect the fact that running a shop on Multiply is now an officially endorsed activity.

If you would like to run a shop on Multiply, all you have to do is identify yourself as an online seller. To do this, click on “my account” at the top of any page and then on “My Account Info”. In the Account Type field just check the box to indicate that your account is an online shop. That’s it! Once you make this change, you’ll see “Online Seller” appear below your headshot on your site (or “Premium Seller” if you have a Premium account).

Please help us spread the word on this. You will need to check this box in order to continue to run your shop on Multiply, but we understand that it will take time for everyone to get the message.

Also, please continue to be mindful of our spam policy. Sending unsolicited personal messages, or posting to groups, for the purpose of promoting your shop is considered spam and could result in the cancellation of your account.

Being officially supported and having the ability to identify yourself as an online seller is a great first step, but we have more to come. In the near future we’ll start adding features designed explicitly for you to help you better run your business on Multiply. The reason for this group is to allow you to help guide us in those efforts.

For now, thanks for your continued support of Multiply and I’ll be back in touch soon with many, many questions. :-)

Shop & Share

SHOP AND SHARE

Shop and Share is a project conceptualized by Filipino actress and Red Cross Ambassador Angel Locsin. Along with her fellow Filipino celebrity friends-Ann Curtis, Kris Aquino, Ruffa Guttierez, Luis Manzano and Pokwang, Ambassador Locsin has posted several designer items up for auction. Proceeds of the sales will go to the Philippine National Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts.

Typhoon ONDOY (Ketsana)

Facts & Figures:

  • Hit the Philippines Saturday afternoon, September 27, 2009
  • 85 kph with gustinness of 100 kph
  • In 6 hours, Metro Manila had a month’s worth of rainfall.
  • Over 26 regions submerged under water
  • Ondoy’s death toll has been placed at 341, mostly from floods
  • Over 500,000 people displaced
  • Damage to infrastructure and agriculture was placed at P10.45 billion

Typhoon PEPENG (Parma)

      • Made landfall thrice since October 3, 2009
      • Affected at least 662,274 families or 3,106,978 people in 4,585 villages in 361 towns and 35 cities and 27 provinces
      • 4,040 houses were destroyed while 34,843 were damaged
      • Damage to property was estimated at P10.437 billion, including P3.402 billion in infrastructure and P7.032 billion in agriculture.
      • Death toll now at 419

These figures do not do justice to the shattered lives of the Filipinos affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

With all the damage that these typhoons have brought upon the people of the Phillipines, help from unexpected people and places was soon to be found. As grateful as we are for this help, there is more that needs to be done. In a matter of moments lives were destroyed, and it is going to take a lot to rebuild them.

Written by ShopOne on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 in Our News.

Good news, our friends at BNSP have reloaded the site again. With what seems to be a new layout and possibly, new functinalities for our buying & selling pleasure. The site was down for renov this past weeks. I hope the new system is stable and hope it rocks. I’ve been a supporter of this site from way way way back, early part of this decade it is. The owners have been good to me, they have our site right on their frontpage as “partner,” they have “me” as a featured seller, they’ve given me discounts for paid ads, free wallet loads and a terrific Nokia phone prize as well! And they offer unlimited number of ads (VERY UNLIKE NOTAYOSDOON.COM). Check it out for yourself, the site looks neat and working. I will re-check them out right about now. http://www.buyandsellplus.com

Sulit Is Tres!

Written by ShopOne on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 in Our News.

Wow, time flies! And as time flew… this Sulit.com.ph site grew!

Here are some Sulit.com.ph bits as lifted from here.

  • Sulit.com.ph is now at the top 20 of the most popular websites in the Philippines and the only local company according to Alexa
  • We now have more than 480K members who posted more than 1.6M ads, 1.7M ads messages, 2.7M private messages and 2.4M forum posts
  • More than 6M unique visitors browsed Sulit.com.ph generating more than 60M pageviews monthly
  • From my room three years ago, we are now operating Sulit.com.ph in a new office in UnionBank Plaza, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

In celebrating the 3 years of sulit lemme share 3 things too…

  1. Among the big players of Philippine online ads marketplace, we get the best sales & results from Sulit.
  2. Because I admire the Sulit.com.ph website, for the heck of it, I played around and tried tested (tested is the more fitting word) creating my own classifieds site, BLOZOOM.com (sadly, the project is put on hold because of other projects giving me more ka-chings. I made a directory too… Bizikat.com. Check ‘em out.
  3. I have over 350 ad posts at Sulit.com.ph; with 23 positive feedbacks; 180,000 ad views (can you believe that awesome power of Sulit!)

Friendster “Do It Yourself” Ads

Written by ShopOne on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 in Linked News.

Friendster recently launched a new feature which allows anyone to place their ads in their network. Called “Do It Yourself Ads“, users can now do targeted online advertising on the massive base of Friendster. Based on the latest count, they have more than 48M registered Filipino users. What’s great about this is that you can actually do effective targeted advertising since you can specify the geography, age, gender, and even locality of your campaign. This gives you more bang for your buck since you’ll really be able to zero in on your prospects more efficiently. Full blog post.

CLHelper: Be Notified of New Craigslist Postings

Written by ShopOne on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 in Linked News.

More times than I care to count I’ve missed out on an item on Craigslist because I saw the posting too late. A couple of months ago, someone in my area posted a brand new riding mower for $300—new mowers are at least $1000. I found the post a day late and, needless to say, I was kicking myself.

This incident and others inspired the new utility CLHelper. CLHelper makes it easy to monitor Craigslist for new posts. You simply select the Craigslist category, the location, the search terms you’re looking for, and how often to search. CLHelper checks Craigslist at the pre-determined interval and notifies you via a popup or an e-mail that a new post matching your search terms has appeared. Click the link in the e-mail or the popup and you are taken directly to the posting on Craigslist in your default browser.

Furniture Online Site?

Written by ShopOne on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 in Our News.

Just one little milestone at Leoque website. We have posted 499 juicylicious posts encompassing our furniture products, displays & accents, some fun photo shots of products, a bit of industry tips and news, interesting site links… and more.

And so, we got 500 posts now!

With just a little over half a year, we get to be at half-kilo posts. On average, we are producing over 2 and half posts per day. I’m just lazy to dig, but I know, there are over 2000 copyrighted photos at site, all photographed and processed by us. Over 400 pieces of distinct & different items-for-sale scattered all throughout the four hundred ninety nine posts.

But wait, there’s more…

The back-end part of doing this online furniture shop, that’s also a handful. Making sure that the plug-ins are working, the contact form, doing back-ups, the pages are showing up correctly, ads are all good and more.

I’ll tell you, making a shop-blog for furniture is not for the faint-hearted. Kids, don’t try this at home.

Marketers always have the statement… “we are the fastest growing network…,” “we are the fastest growing food chain…,” etc… well, we are positive, the House of Leoque furniture website, is one of the fastest growing weblogs-con-shop in the Philippines. And this site will only get bigger, bolder and better.

Here’s to another 500 posts!

Woman charged for a Fake Craiglist Post

Written by ShopOne on Friday, August 21st, 2009 in Linked News.

40-year-old Elizabeth Thrasher is the first person arrested under new Missouri “cyberbullying” laws, following the posting of pictures, the email address, and cell phone number of a 17-year-old girl on Craigslist, where she claimed she was looking for a sexual rendezvous. The girl — as you’d expect — received numerous lewd come-ons. After she called the cops, Thrasher also received something: A trip to jail. Thrasher was freed on $10,000 bond but is now preliminarily barred from having a computer or internet access in her home pending her trial. Thrasher’s motives are unclear, but the girl in question is allegedly the daughter of her ex-husband’s new girlfriend, so a revenge plot is a bit obvious here. The girlfriend and Thrasher had allegedly been arguing for some time, thus the escalation and retaliation. Full Story
