eBay Philippines Sellers Are Dead Meat: eBay Feedback System Change – NEGATIVE!
Written by ShopOne on May 24th, 2008 in Our News.
I must admit, sometimes I post things in here just to kill time or keep this site busy but today’s post is definitely warranted.
With the recent development at eBay Philippines, not allowing the SELLERS to give reasonable NEUTRAL and NEGATIVE feedbacks, that tilts the balance (OH SO VERY MUCH) considerably in favor of the eBay BUYERS. Well, I am all for the “customers are always right” mentality but the new eBay Rule is so one sided, I dunno what will happen next to my eBay Account.
Important changes to Feedback
Buyers, you can no longer receive negative or neutral Feedback from sellers. You should leave honest and accurate Feedback without the fear of receiving negative or neutral ratings.

Sellers can no longer leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. Buyers should leave honest Feedback without the fear of receiving negative or neutral ratings.
This change is already in effect on other eBay country versions/sites. In fact, an eBay Boycott occurred last Feb 2008, partly because sellers resisted the SELLERS CAN’T GIVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK rule.
As I said, we eBay.ph users/sellers are clueless where this ruling change is headed. eBay claims that their feedback system is a more than a decade old, so it needs refreshment. Yes, it is 10 years old elsewhere BUT in the Philippines, I think eBay is not even 4 years old.
This does not apply across all eBay user base but man, I’ll tell you this… eBay users are still not that much mature. Heck, even us, we are still learning the curve. We are still learning the dealing and wheelings of eBay Philippines use. eBay.ph is still IMMATURE to get this drastic change in feedback mechanism.
Again, as a seller, what is the next step? Well, basically, nothing. It’s either you go with that ruling and expect your percentage feedback rating to slowly go down south OR, STOP SELLING at eBay and sell else where. Loss-loss scenario eh? Indeed.
Well, as early as now (dunno if this permitted by eBay), but our quick fix solution for this is… UNREASONABLE NEGATIVE OR NEUTRAL FEEDBACK, VOIDS THE WARRANTY. That’s for items that has warranty and guarantee. For other items for sale that has no warranty, tough luck, sellers don’t have a leverage.
OR, how about this… ANY UNREASONABLE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK WE RECEIVE, WE WILL BLOCK YOUR ACCOUNT AND NOT BE ABLE TO TRANSACT WITH US IN THE FUTURE. NOT ONLY ON MY ACCOUNT, BUT US, BLOCK SELLERS. In this set-up, you need to bond with other sellers or group, to somehow, fight and penalize irresponsible negative feedbackers.
WORSE IS, joybidders inside eBay.ph are abound. I mean, safe to say, not even half of the winners proceed and pay their “WON” items. Giving the joybidders and those who have zero negative feedbacks the power to give negative feedbacks and shielding them with SURE-NO-NEGATIVE-FEEDBACK blanket is such a mistake. Yes, yes, you could always report these joybidders (which can erase their left negative feedbacks) to eBay, but man, that’s such a workload. Look, every other day, I got 12 winners/bidders. By that, I have to report around 6 to 8 eBayers for non-payment? Takes so much time and effort. If a seller takes that route, it might be counter productive to do selling (and going after joybidders) at eBay.
We’ll see.
Yes, on the seller’s part, this would definitely push the seller to clean up his act. Better be accurate with the post, better be accurate with the price, better deliver your item on time, better be able to support and answer questions about what you are selling, better sell really goos items… OR ELSE, receive a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. A negative feedback, to which, you can’t reason out and give (if deserved) retaliatory negative feedback.
So in the end, this eBay Feedback System change does some things for the better… BUT… will it not cause bad things to come? I doubt.
eBay Feedback System Change – NEGATIVE!
(I’ll edit this post and add-up some details as soon as I am done hyperventilating.)
EBAY WILL HELP SELLERS THIS WAY…
What happens when a buyer uses negative Feedback as a threat to receive better service or additional goods/services from the seller?
If a buyer uses the threat of negative Feedback to demand more than what was promised in the item description (e.g. wants overnight delivery but only paid for standard delivery) the seller should immediately report the buyer to eBay.
If there is clear evidence of extortion eBay will take action typically on a first offense. If a buyer shows a pattern of malicious behavior, eBay will most likely suspend the buyer. If we suspend the buyer, any negative or neutral Feedback the buyer has left for sellers will be removed.
Sellers should only file these complaints when the buyer asks for more than what is promised in the listing. Filing a false claim may result in seller suspension.
